Food for the Soul August 5, 2017

marina at Julington Creek near the St. Johns River, Florida

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Our country isn't the place it was when the words to this song were penned, but there is still no other place on earth where I want to live than the United States of America.

We are instructed by the Apostle Paul in his first letter to Timothy to pray for those in authority over us "that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior."

Even more powerful than voting in elections and taking part in public office, our prayers make the biggest difference. Every one of us can do that.

First of all, then,
I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings,
be made on behalf of all men,
for kings and all who are in authority,
in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life
in all godliness and dignity.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved and
come to the knowledge of the truth.
I Timothy 2:1-4
